September Newsletter
Just where has the year gone? Is it just me or has September come round just so quickly? I hate to say it but the evenings are definitely drawing in a little here and I’m told the incredible temperatures we had over the last few months is going to mean an early Autumn – time to start thinking about being cosy inside after long leafy walks, better dig out my wooly hat and scarf me thinks (might have to be wearing them inside too if the cost of heating rises much more!) It’s certainly a tricky time for so many of us at the moment balancing income and the rising cost of living, let’s hope some good news and positive action are heading everyone’s way soon.
For the past few weeks now, I have been clearing up bark chippings almost on a daily basis, that have been strewn across the path and patio, pulled from the flower beds. I had blamed the birds thinking they were looking for bugs hidden in the mulch! Now the mystery has been solved – a hedgehog! Spotted in the act just the other evening – I feel really privileged to have one in my garden having until now, only ever seen them in pictures and am not minding sweeping up after him after all. Isn’t nature just wonderful – a timely reminder that there are so many beautiful and fascinating plants and creatures around us 🙂

New Designs
Over the last few weeks or so I have been out in the studio experimenting with some new designs for dare I mention it? – Christmas!
It might seem early to be thinking about it but bookings have already been made for the festive season – popular events get booked up months in advance and for markets and craft fairs this is hopefully, the busiest time of the year so having a few items that are a little different is a must. I have been using snowflakes in my designs this year – I love making Christmas items but am hoping a snowflake design can be used throughout the winter season and not just for a few days. Here’s a sneeky peek at what’s cooking in the kiln today – snowflake coasters. Hope you like them xx
I have used glass enamel paint for the snowflakes which will fuse with the glass on firing. This means the snowflakes won’t chip or flake off from the glass, creating a permanent pattern and once I have added little ‘bumper’ feet, perfect for a mug of hot chocolate or warm milky coffee.
News From The Studio Hound
Hugo enjoyed his holiday. We spent a few days in North Norfolk and it was absolutely beautiful, lots of walks, beautiful beaches and wonderful food. One place I can thoroughly recommend is the RSPB reserve at Titchwell. We hadn’t really planned to stop but as we passed decided to and I’m so glad we did. It honestly turned out to be one of the best days we had.
Plenty of parking in the visitor carpark and a really friendly welcome, dogs were allowed on the main path. A walk of about a mile took us past huge open water pools teaming with birds and we even spotted eels in the shallows. Views of reed beds and sand dunes ahead which took us onto the most wonderful beach that seemed to stretch for miles. We could see Brancaster in the far distance teaming with people but can honestly say we were on the beach with only 4 or 5 others. Absolutely amazing. We just sat and admired the view, soaking in the joys of nature. Hugo thoroughly enjoyed the walk and dipping his paws in the water too! A return stroll past the birds and a visit to the well-stocked cafe and RSPB shop completed the day.

Workshops this month have happened near the end and the makes are still in the kiln as I write!
