Welcome to April xx

I really do hope you are all looking forward to spending time with family or special friends over the Easter break.

I love this time of year especially because the garden seems to spring completely into life and the lighter evenings mean everything just seems brighter somehow.

We are creating a vegetable patch at the end of the garden and I have so enjoyed choosing varieties of fruit and veg to plant and nurture – I am learning all the time but the potatoes and onions are in, a blackcurrant bush has been successfully transplanted and there are even plans for a little greenhouse. Really enjoying seeing the garden develop.

This month I thought I’d share some information about my local Farmer’s and Craft Market which is held in the village of Boxford on the last Sunday of every month.

The market was the idea of Myalee, a wonderful lady who owns the fantastic Box River Cafe in Boxford and works tirelessly every month to enable a wide variety of small businesses to showcase their quality goods and crafts each month.

There are regular small businesses attending but word must be spreading as each month new and exciting businesses are also on show.

The combination of food, bakes, treats and crafts mean there really is something for everybody and it’s always a great opportunity to pick up a unique gift or present as well as a delicious foodie treat.

The market is held in Boxford Village Hall from 10am until 1pm, there is plenty of parking and always a great atmosphere. Here’s just a flavour of some of the stalls that attended last month:

If you love chocolates then these are like little works of art. Trust me, they taste absolutely delicious. Made by hand by salt and sugar art chocolate, you can find them on Instagram and place orders via their website.

A brand new business attended last month with bread and bakes that both looked and smelt heavenly. The business is called Tapira Treats and they offer breads, cakes and treats for individuals and events. Based in Ipswich, definitely worth checking out.

And for those of you that need gluten free goodies let me introduce The Garden Shed Bakery. Absolutely beautiful handmade cakes, scones, bakes and cookies, all gluten free but you absolutely wouldn’t know – totally delicious. You can find them on Instagram too.

Events This Month

April starts for me with the wonderful ‘We are Handmade’ Craft Fair at Coggeshall on the 2nd. Held in the Village Hall from 10am until 4pm a wide variety of crafts are on offer and the makers will be present so it’s a great opportunity to chat about the makes and find out more about the processes involved in creating them.

Workshop bookings are proving popular and I am continually thrilled with the makes – absolutely stunning. One of the best things about holding glass workshops is seeing the delight when items are collected – Yes, you did really make that and it is really beautiful. Love being able to share this feeling xx

Make of the Month

My workshop make of the month this month is a little taste of Switzerland…

This piece was quite a challenge in that it needed some really accurate cutting skills to ensure there were no large gaps between the pieces and that every piece fitted together. It was fired twice, once to complete the piece and then a second time to create the curve. The piece just makes me smile, it really is a little piece of Switzerland – Toblerone anyone?
